Anchorage resident Alexander L. Calugan, 80, died March 25, 2008, at Alaska Native Medical Center from a longtime illness. A visitation was at Grace Victory Fellowship, 234 Muldoon Road, with a graveside service at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Del Franklin officiated. Pallbearers were Ronald A. Calugan Jr., Anthony Calugan, Scott Nederbrock and Jake Pollock.

Alex was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Unga. He was a member of Grace Victory Fellowship. Alex enjoyed making wooden boats and having a day with lots of grandkids and great-grandkids. He lived in Chignik and Ivanof Bay until 1992, when he moved to Anchorage. He worked for Lake and Pen School District from 1970 to 1980 and was a fisherman until 1992. His family stated: "Alex was a 'family man'; they always came first. Even toward the end, he loved them all in his own way. He will be missed."

Alex is survived by his spouse, Eugenia Calugan; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Connie; sons, Alex and Peter; daughter, Vera Pollock; granddaughters, Deborah Enright, Delilah Enright, Francine Enright, Eugenia L. Calugan, Krystal D. Calugan, Tammy Ilene and Carlie Calugan; grandsons, Dartanian Chavira, Anthony Calugan, Ronald Calugan Jr., Kyle Calugan, Eric Smith, Jacob Pollock, Patrick Calugan, Daniel Calugan, Larry Calugan Jr., Michael Calugan, Brian Lee Calugan, Arnold Calugan Jr. and Peter Calugan. From his first marriage, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Laura Calugan; daughter-in-law, Betty Calugan and son, Arnold Calugan. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Isabelle and Pauline; brother, Peter Calugan; and son, Lawrence Calugan.
