Ruben Lopez Arce was the son of Refugio Lopez Arce and Dolores Gallardo Arce. He was one of six children. Ruben had three brothers and two sisters.

According to military records, Ruben Arce joined the military on 25 Jan 1943. He served in the Air Corps during WWII, in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and the Cold War period. Part of his service years were in the Strategic Air Command where he was the navigator on a B-47 crew. He retired 31 Jan 1963 after 20 years of service.
