Mattie Low Kibler was born in Sardis on July 16, 1874, the daughter of Jonathan and Demarius Jones Low. She was educated in Sardis and in 1899 married Joseph H. Kibler, who was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad. The couple lived in Birmingham, Lumberton and Memphis until Mr. Kibler's death in 1906 when Mattie returned to Sardis to make her home. She never remarried and lived with her daughter, Ora until her death. She was a faithful member of the Sardis Baptist Church.
