Services held Tuesday, February 8, 1998 at 11:00 a.m., Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church 2529 East Belmont Avenue, Fresno, California; Rev. Jimmy Jackson, Associate Pastor, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Officiant.

Mary Bell McLaurin was born to William Oscar and Carrie McLaurin on July 23, 1907 in Bolton, Mississippi. When she was a young girl, the family moved to Louisiana, then to Arkansas and subsequently came to reside in Keystone, Oklahoma. The family remained in Oklahoma where she met and married Clifford Henderson. To that union three children were born. Mary later married Isaiah Powell and to this union one son was born.

Sister McLaurin accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour at an early age. She grew in her faith as she faithfully served her Lord. Prior to moving to California, Mary was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Keystone, Oklahoma. In 1943, Mary moved with her husband and children to Fresno, California. She became a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. In 1953, she united with the Fellowship Baptist Church where she faithfully served in the WMU, and in the Hymnal Choir, served as President of Hannah Circle. Sister McLaurin also taught Sunday School for a number of years.

Sister McLaurin believed in the servanthood of Christ. She would often clean house for those who were ill or needy; make clothes and cook food and take to those who had none. She was a devoted mother to her children and a loving grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a loving sister to her brothers and sisters; a special aunt to a number of nieces and nephews. She was indeed, a warm and loving friend to the friendless and one who dearly loved Jesus.

Sister Mary McLaurin leaves to mourn her death two sons, Reverend Nathaniel Henderson and Clifford Henderson, her only daughter, Connie Barnett; one son, Isaiah "Buck" Powell preceded her in death, as did a daughter, Jessie Lee Henderson, who died at the age of 18 months. She also leaves to mourn her death two brothers, William O. McLaurin and Eugene McLaurin, as well as one sister, Alma Humphrey; and a number of other relatives and friends in Fresno, California.

Pallbearers: Deacon Marvin Ables, Deacon Anderson Jackson, Bro. Malcolm Jones, Deacon Wendell Hewlett, Deacon Joe Warren and Bro. Louis Frye.
