In 1850, Andrew was living in Kentucky with his mother and step-father. Later Andrew and his brother Charles Alex Berry moved back to Daviess County, Indiana for several years before moving to Henry County, Indiana in the early 1860's.
Andrew was drafted as a Private in Co. A of the 110th Indiana Infantry in Henry County and served during the Morgan Raid.
On October 11, 1865 A.J. Berry was wed to Mary Elma Edwards in Henry County. Their children included: Orvill Edwards Berry, Minnie 'Pearl' Berry Newby, Anna L. Berry.
Mrs. Mary Edwards Berry died in 1885. In 1887, Andrew married his second wife, Mary Ann Lowery on December 22 in Henry County.
Andrew Jackson Berry died on February 27 of Traumatic Cerebral Meningitis following a blow to the head. His obituary from the local "Rushville Rupublican" dated March 1 reads: "A. J. Berry, of Knightstown, was trying to milk a cow, Saturday, when the cow kicked, but missed him and struck a piece of timber which fell on his head, cracking his scull. Brain fever set in, and he died on Monday night".
A.J. Berry was the first husband of Mary Ann Lowry, who married Thomas I. Howren after his death. He is buried with her parents.
