Captured in action along with 11000 of his comrades on 15 Sept 1863 in Harpers Ferry, VA and due to the shear numbers they were paroled the following day and allowed to leave in peace.
Died September 24, 1863 in a hospital at Beaufort, SC of scurvy. He was a prisoner of war at the time.
