William was the first of eight children born to Samuel Shuman Moffett and Maria Jane McKee Moffett.

He married Abbie Eliza Sering in Madison, Indiana in 1901 and moved to Peoria, Illinois in 1905.

They had 10 children, all of whom lived into their late adulthood, many into their 80's and some into their 90's.

After finishing his education, William went to work in his Father's drygoods store, S. S. Moffett & Son's Drygoods, 112 East Main Street, Madison, IN. The store carried, among other things, thousands of yards of materials (women all made their clothes in those days). After his father died, William ran the drygoods store. When they moved to Peoria, IL, he opened a drygoods store again then he became a commercial real estate agent

When they moved to Peoria, they bought a house at 301 W. Armstrong, Peoria where they lived the rest of their married life. As the family increased, he enlarged it to accommodate his 10 children.

It is said that William was of fine character, handsome and had charming manners so he was very popular with young and old. His children always spoke of him with great love.

William was a devoted Presbyterian, active in the First Presbyterian Churches in Madison and Peoria.

William was my Grandfather.
