Grandma Rosie was born to the late Philip and Alice Ward-Griffin, who wed on December 24, 1908. She loved to volunteer with children, and she continued her education after retirement. This brought her great joy. Grandma's other talents included baking scrumptous three-layer homemade cakes, made from scratch biscuits and heavenly chicken dishes. She was lovingly called "RoMae" by her dearly departed husband, Cornelius Key. He changed his name to Nelious Kee after 1937. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, sons: Nelious, William J, Willie, Louis, and Harvey; five daughters: Mary , Carrie, Rosie, Dorothy and Carolyn; one sister, Katie Lawrence, one brother-in-law, Toney Hicks Mathis and sister-in-law, Naomi Ussery Griffin; 48 grandchildren, seventy-six great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Services were held on June 23, 1993 at Lawndale First Baptist Church, Lawndale, NC, where she was a member. Dockery's Funeral Home, Shelby, NC.
