C. Alpaugh Dies at 75

North Adams-Chester J. Alpaugh, 75, a retired interior decorator and carpenter who had lived in North Adams for the past 47 years, died Wednesday morning at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.

He was a former deputy sheriff in Hillsdale County and a former justice of the peace in North Adams.

He was born in Britton, S.D., Oct. 17, 1892, the son of Henry and Maude McNitt Alpaugh.

He had lived in Detroit and Pittsford before moving to North Adams.

He was a Past Master of Adams Lodge 189 F & AM and a member of Alpha Chapter 288 OES of North Adams.

On June 4, 1917, he married Inez Sears. She survives, as does one daughter, Mrs Arthur (Lorena) Hammons of Jonesville; one son, Chester F. of San Francisco, Cal., one brother, Hal of Oscoda; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday afternoon at 2 at the Ned M. Towns Funeral Home in North Adams.

The Rev. Richard L. Matson will officiate and burial will be in the Northlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7 to 9.
