Fred worked for the Jaenecke Printing Ink Company in Chicago for over 30 years. He was a sales representative and in 1916 he traveled to Europe for the company. His passport application describes him as "45 years old born Lincoln, Nebraska; 5 ft. 6 inches tall; blue eyes, gray hair: traveling to Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Holland on commercial business". Later he became sales manager and then manager of the firm. He had two children, Magdaline C. Dunham and Frederick Hilton Dunham. He died in Grant Hospital, Chicago.
