PERKINSVILLE/DANSVILLE - William 'Bill' F. Last, 84, of Dansville, formerly of Perkinsville, passed away Monday evening, Jan. 5, 2004, at McAuley Manor Health Care Facility in Hornell.
Bill was born April 21, 1919, in Perkinsville, the son of Stephen and Florence (Gross) Last. Bill was a lifelong resident of the Perkinsville area prior to moving to Dansville a few short years ago. Bill and Janet (Huette) entered into a loving marriage at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Aug. 23, 1947. Together they have enjoyed over 56 years of marriage. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 as a Motor Machinist Mate 2nd Class. During this time, he served in the Pacific Theater of World War II.

Subsequent to his time spent in the Navy, Bill was employed as a tool and die maker for over 44 years at the Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Dansville. He retired from there in 1981. He enjoyed ice fishing and hunting deer. Although it took a few years, one of Bill's proudest moments as a deer hunter was when he took his first buck at the age of 80. It took a while, but it didn't matter to him, he was proud.

Bill was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville, and he was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Dansville Moose Lodge, Perkinsville Fire Department, Perkinsville Rod and Gun Club, Dansville American Legion, and Foster Wheeler 25 Year Club.

Bill was predeceased by both of his parents, Stephen and Florence Last; two sisters, Cecelia Luther and Catherine Grundman, and two brothers, Stephen and Leo Last.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Janet Last of Dansville; his four daughters: Donna (Jack) Howe of Wayland, Linda (Rick) Conrad of Springwater, Mary (Jim) Briggs of Wayland and Theresa (Lee) Bennett of Canaseraga; 10 grandchildren: Kimberlee Howe, Jennifer (Matt) Weslowski, Ben Briggs, Michelle Howe, Lauren Conrad, Stephanie Bennett, Molly Briggs, Emily Bennett, Sarah Briggs, and William Briggs; three sisters: Dorothy Briggs of Rome, N.Y., Priscilla Dieter of Bath, and Roselyn (Ray) Davis of Naples; his brother-in-law Ray Grundman of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A prayer service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
