E.D. Clark, farmer and stock raiser, section 18, post office Hopkins. Among the old settlers of this district, the subject of this sketch will bear more than a passing notice. He is a native of Sangamon County, Illinois, and was born February 9, 1828. He was there raised to manhood, and at the age of twenty-six years he emigrated to Iowa, settling in Marion County, where he resided about two years. From there he moved to Daviess County, Missouri, and after remaining there five years, located in Harrison County. Three years later he came to this county and settled where he now resides. He has 112 acres of good average land, eighty acres of which are under cultivation. Mr Clark was married in 1846 to Miss Abbie J. Austin. They have from this union seven children: William T., Mary E., Alexander, Sarah B., John P., James E., and Alice J.

Elon fought in the Union Army in the Civil War, Co. B. 11 th MO. He enlisted at Gallatin, MO. 16 Mar 1863 for a period of three years. He furnished his own horse and saddle. When he was mustered out in New Orleans on 27 July 1865, he was paid $100 and then charged $11 for one Colt pistol and one saber and belt, which he kept. He was paid "no bounty". There is no mention as to how he returned to Missouri. He was a member of the Upton Post No. 366, Dept. of Mo. G.A.R.
