Walter S. Gollmar, age 97, died January 8, 2007, at Sienna Meadows in Oregon, WI. He was born January 12, 1909, in Evansville, to Walter S. and Jessie (nee, Hall) Gollmar. He was a lifelong resident of Evansville. Walter graduated from the Evansville High School in 1927. He studied cornet with William Tong. Mr. Tong had been a solo cornetist with John Philip Sousa's Band. Walter also studied music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to his employment with the Parker Pen Company in 1929, he had been a member of the Parker Pen Company Band, as well as the Janesville Eagles Club Band. Walter worked at various times for the Parker Pen Company until his retirement in 1972. He had been a member of the Seils-Sterling Circus Band in 1933. Walter was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in World War II from September, 1942 until October 1945. He had served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy with the 403rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion, Battery A. Walter was united in marriage to Ruth Morrison, July 8, 1960, at the Methodist parsonage in Evansville. Walter has been a member of Union Lodge No. 32, Free and Accepted Masons, since October 3, 1932.Surviving are his wife, Ruth; and three grand nieces and five grand nephews. He was predeceased by his father in 1933 and his mother in 1959, and a half-brother, Frederick Emulus Macart in 1973, and a half-sister, Vivian Macart Main in 1919, as well as a very special niece, Betty Main Brown, in 1980, another niece, Naomi Ruth Macart in 1925, and two nephews, Floyd Main Jr. in 1954 and Frederick Frank Macart in 1987. Visitation will be on January 11, 2007, from 4-6 p.m. at the Allen-Meredith Funeral Home, Evansville, with a public Masonic Service at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on January 12, 2007, at the funeral home at 11 a.m. following a short visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastors David Fellows and Lyle Trow officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville. The family requests that flowers be omitted. A Memorial Fund will be established in his name.
