Active in the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, he was installed as a deacon in November, 1896, and as an elder in March, 1927.
He served as official weather observer for the Fredericksburg section, with instruments on his farm, for a number of years until the work was taken over by the National Park Service. He also helped operate a feed business here, now run by a son, William S. Morrison. He had worked on the farm until about three years ago.
