Elsie Allen, Winterset

Elsie Pearl Allen, 77, died Oct. 26, 2003, of complications of diabetes at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 29) at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Montpelier Cemetery, Patterson.

Elsie Allen was born Dec. 20, 1925, to Rufus Hays and Mary Bell (Warren) Baker of Barney. On Sept. 9, 1945, she married Glenn Earl Allen at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Following their marriage, they resided in Conger, Wick and St. Charles. In 1969, she and her husband moved to Winterset. Elsie had been a certified nurse's aide at Winterset Care Center North, Winterset Care Center South, and the St. Charles Care Center. She also had been a waitress at the Club Cafe in Winterset. She was a member of the Winterset V.F.W. Auxiliary and had attended the United Methodist Church of Barney.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eight brothers and seven sisters.

She is survived by a son, Glenn Edward Allen of Winterset; a daughter, Patty Lou Hamner of Winterset; two sisters, Katherine Sprouse of Winterset and Wanda Coril of Marlette, Mich.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
