ASHLAND - Charles F. Aggertt, age 89, of Ashland, IL, died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born Oct. 19, 1916, in rural Sangamon County, IL, the son of Calvin and Mabel (nee Klein) Aggertt.
He married Mary Elizabeth Bersig on Sept. 24, 1937, and she survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Virginia Lee (Harold) Sperry of Washington; a son, Charles Stephen "Steve" (Phyllis) Aggertt of rural Ashland; three grandchildren, Carol Bierman of Gibson City, John Aggertt of Mahomet and Colby Aggertt of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Frederick Aggertt; a brother, Arthur Aggertt; and a sister, Edna Mae Richards.
Mr. Aggert was a life-long farmer and clerked sales for the Ashland Auction Company. He served 39 years as a substitute rural mail carrier for the Ashland and Tallula Post Offices. In addition, he served as a Cass County Tax Assessor for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ashland United Methodist Church in Ashland. Burial will be at Pleasant Plains Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Ashland. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Ashland United Methodist Church.
