Mrs. Vahling was born Feb. 25, 1881, in Teutopolis, the daughter of Edward and Mary Koelker. She resided in the Teutopolis area all her life until moving to the nursing home four years ago. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic church and St. Anne's Altar Sodality. She married John Pals. He died in 1943. She later married Frank Vahling Sr. He died in 1963.
Surviving are her stepsons, Joe and Lawrence Pals, Alf Pals, Ed Pals and Frank Jr.; stepdaughters, Cecilia Hartke and Laura Zerusen, Celeste Dust and Mrs. Joseph Pavell of Wilmette; and a sister, Minnie Schott. One stepdaughter preceded her in death.
