Petersburg, IL - Shirley Janet Hermes, 77, of Petersburg, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 6:55 a.m. at her residence.

She was born on May 29, 1931 in Ness City, Kansas to Russell and Laura Sperry. She married James Edward Hermes in 1967.

She is survived by her husband, James of Petersburg; four sons, Mike (Cindy) Merrell of Springfield, Stephen (Marsha) Merrell of Tallula, Tony Merrell of Tallula, and Art (Julie) Hermes of New Berlin; one daughter, Sharon (Ray) Franklin of Salisbury; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Russell (Pat) Sperry, Jr. of Witt and Paul (wife, Barb – deceased) Sperry of New Berlin; two sisters, Sue (Floyd) Olesen of Petersburg and Donna (Roger) Smith of Pleasant Plains; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, Donald Merrell, one brother, and one sister, preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg.

Burial will be in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Ashland.
