He was born on Nov. 16, 1924, in Batesville, the son of the late Arthur Jones Harding and Rosa Spencer Harding. He is preceded in death by one daughter, Linda McAllister and three sisters, Ann Houchens, Verdell Beal, and Dorothy Via.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Harding, of 54 years; two daughters, Barbara Browning and Deborah Harding, both of Crozet; two sons-in-law, Melvin McAllister of Crozet and Charles Browning of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Valerie Schwartz and her husband, Dwayne, Charles R. Browning, Amy Pritchett and her husband, Scottie; three great-grandchildren, all which brought him joy, Chelsey Browning, Savannah Prichett and Trevor Schwartz; three sisters, Margaret Nay of Faber, (Nelson County), Agnes Fisher of Crozet, Peggy Taylor and her husband, Ray, of Crozet, and many nieces and nephews.
He retired from Acme Visible Records in l986. He was a member of the Crozet Baptist Church and their Baptist Mens Class, 8436 Douglas Hall Kirby, American Legion Post 74, and Disabled American Veterans #33.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crozet Baptist Church General Fund, 5804 St. George Ave., Crozet, VA 22932.
The family received friends Aug. 26, at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral service was held Aug. 27, at the Crozet Baptist Church with the Reverend David Collier, the Reverend Colleen Swingler-Titus and Melvin McAllister officiating. Interment followed at the Rockgate Cemetery in Crozet.
