Robert Elden Paine, Sr. 1925 - 2008 Erickson & Brown Funeral services will be held in the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 8, at 11:00 a.m. for former Taft resident, Robert E. Paine, Sr. 83. Mr. Paine was born in Worthington, Minnesota on July 10, 1925 and passed away in a Los Angeles hospital on August 30, 2008. During World War II, Mr. Paine proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He is a former P.O.W. and he received the Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation. After being discharged from the Army he made Taft his home until 2001 when he moved to Bakersfield. Mr. Paine had worked as a clerk for PG&E for over 35 years. He is a lifetime member of the Fellows American Legion Post #70 and a member of Sessna Sargent POW Chapter. He was an avid Bakersfield Condors fan and held season tickets. He was also a great fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. Mr. Paine was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Floyd Paine, Sr.; his brothers, Don, Arthur, Floyd, and Harold Paine; his sisters, Elaine Myers and Lavone Wyman. Mr. Paine is survived by his wife, Betty Paine of Bakersfield, his children and their spouses, Dianna and Lowell VanGundy of Coolage, Arizona, Denise and John Halsell of Bakersfield, Tina and Bob Paine, Jr. of Taft, Larry and Paula Maharrey and Rick and Susie Maharrey, all of Bakersfield; his brother and his wife, Richard and Frances Paine of Hemet; his sisters, Lorene Conners and her husband, Bob of Arroyo Grande, and Carol Andrews of Cottonwood; his sister-in-law, Charlyn Paine of Apple Valley; his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and by numerous nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
