Soon after the war he married his first wife, Malinda Umbenhour, on December 28, 1865 in Hancock County, Indiana. In the 1880 census he was a widower with four children, Walter, Emma, Ora and Oliver. He married his second wife, Elender Peek, on June 10, 1883.
