Lola Ishmael Burkhart, 95, Ozark, Mo., passed away Friday, September 10, 1999, in Ozark Riverview Manor. She was born Tuesday, January 19, 1904, in Chadwick, Mo., to the late Oliver and Mary Alice Jones Burkhart. Lola's first ambition was to be a writer. She taught, school and achieved her goal by writing for various newspapers. Lola accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined the First Baptist Church in St. John, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Sterl Burkhart and Lloyd Burkhart, five sisters; Della Nelson, Clara Coen, Sally Stevens, Ethel Ives, and Flossie Workman. Survivors include nieces and nephews, including; Ruth M. Clark, St. John, Kansas, Carolyn Holland, Wichita, Kansas, William Stevens and wife Virginia (Shipman) Stevens, Melvin Ives, all of Bountiful, Utah, Howard Coen, Robert Ives of St. John, Kansas. Graveside services were held 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 1999, at Garrison Cemetery, Garrison, Mo., with the Reverend Darrell Hinds officiating. Lula was laid to rest beside her beloved parents under the care of Harris, A Heritage Funeral Home, Ozark. No formal visitation was held, however, friends were welcomed between 1 and 5 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
