John was born on March 4, 1956 in Grinnell, IA, the son of Gordon Roy and Lois Virginia Huff Van Donselaar. He attended the Grinnell schools and High School graduating with the Class of 1974. While in school he participated in Cross Country, track events and intramural basketball. He attended Mid America Nazerene College in Olathe, Kansas for two years and Des Moines Area Community College where he received his training in Nursing Home Administration. For the past few years he has been associated with his family in the management of Friendship manor Nursing home, serving as Administrator.
John was a caring person who managed to find time to listen to others. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed sports, fishing and keeping in shape with his weights.
John is survived by his wife, Tamra; his children, twin 23 mo. old sons, Michael John and Joshua Gordon; his 7 mo. old daughter, Jessica Rae; his parents, Gordon and Lois Van Donselaar; his brothers, Roger and James Van Donselaar; and his paternal grandmother, Grace Van Donselaar. Also surviving is his father and mother-in-law. Ray and Cleo Fish of Waterloo.
John died Sunday, July 6, 1986, at Rock Creek Lake State Park, west of Grinnell of drowning at the age of 30. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.
