William Norman Gorey, 85, of 42 Wood Ave, Panama City, passed away September 4, 2008 at Bay Medical Center. Norm was born October 10, 1922 in Calhoun County, Alabama, a son of the late William and Jesse Boozer Gorey. Norm retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force having served in the WWII, Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He then worked 10 years for Civil Service. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and singing in the choir. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Parker where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. Norm had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Fay Holifield Gorey of Panama City, 2 sons, William N. Gorey, Jr. and wife Jean of Pensacola, Duane T. Gorey and wife Lisa of Panama City, 1 daughter, Gail (Gorey) Rice of Morristown, Tenn., 4 grandchildren, John W. Rice and wife Rebeka of Knoxville, Tenn., Laura E. Rice of Knoxville, Tenn., Mackenzie Gorey of Panama City and Emily Gorey of Panama City, one brother, George L. Gorey of Jacksonville, Alab., one sister, Mildred Reaves of Jacksonville, Alab.
Norman is preceded in death by parents and 2 sisters, Jewel Harcrow and Elwanda Hughes.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 2:00PM at First Baptist Church, 4630 East Business Hwy 98, Parker, Fla. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 1:00-2:00PM, one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted.
Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Parker for the Children's Camp Fund.
Honorary pallbearers will be The Senior Men's Sunday School Class and Deacons of First Baptist Church of Parker and Marty Martin.
