Donald J. Amaral passed away August 12, 2008 at age 85. He was born and raised in Redlands, CA. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the 7th Infantry in World War II and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He was in construction work in Southern California before moving his family to Reno in 1971. Don is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary K. Amaral (Katie); son, Gary Amaral of Reno; sisters, Pat White of Citrus Heights, CA and JoAnn Massey of Byron, GA; granddaughter, Elicia Amaral of Portland, OR and aunt, Bernice LaVan of Bakersfield, CA. Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Gail Amaral; brothers, Robert W. Amaral and James A. Amaral and parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Amaral.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Walton Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd St., Reno. Graveside services to follow at 11 a.m. at Mt. View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances be made to your favorite charity, if you so desire.
