Knight of Bath, Knight of the Garter, Chief Butler of England, Deputy Constable of England, Captain of Owestry and Warden of the Marches of North Wales. Warden of Shrewsbury and Marches in Shropshire. Privy Councillor, Treasure of England, Constable of Diver Castle, Warden of the Cinque Ports, Lieutenant of Wales.
Second but only surviving son of Sir Richard Arundel FitzAlan and Elizabeth de Bohun. Grandson of Sir Richard de Arundel FitzAlan and Eleanor of Lancaster, Sir William de Bohun and Elizabeth Badlesmere.
Thomas married Beatriz of Portugal, the legitimated daughter of Joao I, King of Portugal and his mistress, Inez Pires, daughter of Pedro Esteves. They were married at Lambeth, London on 26 Nov 1405, and had no issue.
His father was executed for treason against King Richard II in 1397. and, Thomas joined his uncle, the Archbishop Thomas Arundel at Utrecht, and was with Henry IV when he landed at Ravenspur in 1399. The attainer reversed in 1400 and Thomas was restored to his father's title, Earl of Arundel and Surrey, estates and lands.
Thomas fought against the Welsh in 1401 to 1405, the Armagnacs in 1411, and was with the French campaign in 1415, with 100 men-at-arms and 300 archers at the taking of Harfleur.
Thomas left a will dated 01 Oct 1415, proved 11 Dec 1415. After his death, Beatrix married Sir John de Holand.
