"Wm. W. Ferris, age 69 years, passed away suddenly Saturday about 4 p.m. at his home in Sunman. He had been in poor health for some months but was about and attended to his work about his home and seemed unusually cheerful on Saturday morning. He went out in the yard to remove some wood and worked a while, then went in the house and said he would crack some walnuts. He took hammer and nuts and went out in the yard. As Mrs. Ferris failed to hear him she went to investigate and found him seemingly in a faint, but later found he had passed away. He has been a member of St. Paul M.E. church since 9 years of age and was converted under the preaching of Rev. Cordes years ago and has lived a clean Christian life. He was ever considerate of others' feelings and very kind hearted, not only to people, but to all dumb animals. His funeral was conducted at St. Paul on Tuesday afternoon. He was a member of the Masonic and O.E.S. lodges. Rev. Speedy and Rev. A.C. Thomas had charge of the services and his remains were laid to rest on the farm where he was born to await the resurrection day, when we know he will surely have a part in the first resurrection. He leaves, besides his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Flora B. Freeland of Sunman and Mrs. Mattie Cottingham of Lexington, Ky., and one brother, Abram Ferris of Richmond, besides several nieces and nephews who with hosts of others will sadly miss his smiling face and kind words. We forgot to mention that he was a teacher in this county for many years."
