Obit: At Cottage hospital, March 9, 1896, Jessie Gertrude Warfel, wife of W.W. Hayne aged 27 died.

Mrs. hayne leaves a bright little daughter, Margaret Carrie 31/2 years of age, whom she in Fedruary nursed through a sever attack of scarlet fever. Immediately following the child's recovery, she herself prostrated by serious physical complications. Consulting physicians decided that an operation was necessary, and the patient was removed to Cottage hospital on the 13th of February. The operation was successfully performed and Mrs Hayne apparently rallied, and for a time appeared to be in a fair way to permanent recovery. The case, however, assumed an unfavorable turn, and for twenty-six days the struggle between life and death continued, all the power of human skill being in vain exerted in her behalf. The funeral, Wednesday afternoon, from the residence at 812 Maple street, was largely attended by friends, neighbors and members of Myrtle lodge, Kinghts of Pythias. The floral tributes were many and profuse. Mrs Hayne was born in Des Moines June 23, 1869, and was married here on April 30, 1891, to her now mourning husband Willard. Nearly all of her life was passed here. She was of a genial and kindly disposition, a devoted wife and mother, and a kind friend and neighbor.
