Edmund Burke, Sr., son of William Burke and Lydia Chase Burke. Married to Phebe Arnold, daughter of John and Anna Arnold.
In 1802, Edmund, Sr. and Phebe moved to North Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, where Phebe's father, John Arnold, was interested in a manufacturing enterprise. By 1810, it appears that Edmund and Phebe had returned to Warwick, Kent County, Rhode Island. [1]
Edmund and Phebe had the following children: Edmund Burke, Jr. (b. 1802, Warwick, R.I.); William Herbert Burke (b. 1806, Adams, Mass.) Philip Arnold Burke (b. 1809, Adams, Mass.), Sophia Burke Kinney (b. 1806) and Betsey Burke (b. 1808). [2]
As reflected in the 1810 and 1820 U.S. Census for Warwick, Kent County, Rhode Island (see attached), the Betsey Burke identified by FAG #29734508, was not the wife of Edmund Burke, Sr., who is also identified as the assistant marshal in both census, rather she is likely his sister given her age (16-26), and the fact that she is identified as the "Head of Families" in both census.
In the 1850 U.S. Census, Edmund's wife, Phebe Arnold Burke, is found living in North Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, with Philena (Carpenter) Arnold, the widow of Phebe's brother John Arnold, and her two children. (See Phebe Arnold Burke bio.)
