Adele Velma Cox Dungy, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, left her earthly home bound for heaven's gate on Friday, September 5, 2008. Born to Lovell and Velma Cox on July 29, 1939, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she attended Big Ben Elementary School and Druid High School, class of 1957. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Beautiful Zion Church in Tuscaloosa. Always faithful and devout, she lived her life according to God's words and always thought of others' needs before her own.
Upon completing High School she attended the School of Radiology in Blue Island, Illinois where she earned a certificate in Radiology Technology. A career which she was proud of and dedicated to at Methodist Hospital and finally St. Mary's Medical Center where she retired in 2004 after 38 years of service. Following retirement, she along with her son Jerald founded and operated Milestone Daycare where she actively shaped the lives of infants and small children throughout the city of Gary. Always putting others above self, she was able to provide love and generosity to whomever crossed her path.
In 1962 she met the love of her life James C. Dungy in Gary, Indiana and was blissfully married to him on April 24, 1965. They shared the ideal marriage for 43 years, until God called her home. To this blessed union two children were born, Jerald Calvin Dungy and April Joi Dungy.
She was welcomed at Heaven's gates by her parents, Lovell and Velma Cox, and two siblings, Jonathon and Eddie Cox.
She leaves to cherish her earthly memory, her devoted husband, James; son, Jerald (Deborah); daughter, April; grandchildren, Maatii, Jerald II, and Grace; siblings; Essie (Jack) McConnico, of Birmingham, Alabama, John (Trudy) Cox of Eutaw, Alabama, Pearlie (Willie) Seltz of Gary, Indiana, Cleveland Cox of Gary, Indiana, Lovell Jr. (Alberta) Cox of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Cora Harrison of Gary, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, and friends.
