Ernest Herman Hase, Sr.was my grandfather, although he died long before I was born. I know very little about him since he passed away when my mother was only about eight years old. He came from a large family in Germany, born in Berlin. He got along great with his sisters but not with his brothers nor his father. He was known for his bad temper but at the same time was a kind and loving father. He served in World War 1 in the German and American Army. He was discharged from the U.S. Army May 15, 1912. He was 29 at the time. He met my grandmother at church. He was much older than her. They were married for about ten years before they could afford to start their family. Unfortunately, they lost their first born, a daughter Nancy June, just hours after her birth. They went on to have two more surviving children, my uncle and my mother. Ernest was a House Painter and a Photographer. He died from Congestive Heart Failure due to Mitral Insufficiency and Influenza.
