Warren F. Tibbetts, 84, of Church Street, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.

He was born April 30, 1924, in Laconia, the son of the late Harry and Albertine (Lambert) Tibbetts. He was a graduate of Laconia High School and a lifelong Laconia resident.

An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served with Company A 1892nd Engineer Aviation Battalion.

He had been employed as a machinist for Scott & Williams and later was employed by the Laconia State School, retiring in 1986.

Warren was a member of the AARP, a life member of VFW Post No. 1670, a former member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks BPOE No. 876, and a former member of St. Jean de Baptiste.

He had also volunteered at the Belknap County Nursing Home.

He was a friend to everyone he met and could be seen most days on the bench at Shaw's in Belmont talking to everyone or at the Lakeport McDonald's having coffee.

The widower of Catherine (Etchels) Tibbetts, who died in 1986, he is survived by three grandson and their spouses, Jamie and Kristy Tibbetts, Derek and Lindsey Tibbetts and Corey Tibbetts, all of Concord; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Delaney and Lucas, all of Concord; a sister, Eunice Chapman of Laconia; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Tibbetts of Concord; nieces, Wanda Tibbetts of Lakeport and Nancy VanCamp and Judy Ramsay, both of Laconia; three nephews, Ronald Tebbetts of Connecticut and Richard Tebbetts and Rockwell Tebbetts, both of Gilford; several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, James H. Tibbetts; and three brothers, Maurice Tibbetts, Ralph Tibbetts and Carroll Tibbetts.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia, where the Rev. Michael Graham, pastor of the Gilford Community Church, will officiate.
