Jacob Franklin Houpe was a son of Abner and Dovey (Adams) Houpe. He would serve as a Private in Co. D., North Carolina Troops, CSA during the Civil War. He married Martha Cox (b. 1833 d. 1911). Children were: Lena Rebecca, Mattie, Ida, Lula, and Nola.

This Houpe line descended from Sebastian Houpt/Haupt of Iredell Co., NC. Sebastian was born 1745 a son of Johann Nicholas Haupt (b. 1709) of Windesheim, Rheinland, Germany. Johann Nicholas Haupt arrived 1740 on the Loyal Judith and settled in Montgomery Co. area of Pennsylvania. Sebastian would migrate down Great Wagon Road to Iredell Co., NC about 1770.

Abner (b. 1805) was a son of Jacob Houpe (b. abt. 1770) who was a son of Sebastian Houpt.
