Illiopolis, Sept. 7 - James Robert Shepard died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1925, at his home in Illiopolis, aged 86 years, 8 months and 9 days.


The decedent was born in Macon county and grew to manhood on a farm near Decatur. He married Miss Maria Anderson in December, 1868. She preceded him in death. After his marriage he farmed near Decatur, later purchasing a farm near Argenta where he resided until 1905, when he retired and with his family removed to Illiopolis where he since resided.


He enlisted as a volunteer in the Civil war in Company A, Twenty-First Illinois infantry. He served until the close of the war.


Mr. Shepard was a member of Morgan post, G. A. R., Illiopolis, and was a member of Illiopolis camp, M. W. of A. He was an active member of the Christian church.


Surviving are: Two daughters, the Misses Minnie and Edith Shepard, at home; three grandchildren, Robert, Myra and Winnifred Dennis, Chambersburg.


Funeral services will be at the Christian church. Interment will be made in Riverside cemetery.
