He enlisted into Co. C, Capt. Calkins' Co., 87th Regiment, Indiana Infantry on August 2, 1862 in Peru, Indiana. He was wounded by gun shot in the left knee joint during the battle of Chickamauga, Georgia on September 20, 1863. He died in the U.S.A. General Hospital No.1 at Chattanooga, TN on November 10, 1863.
