William Thompson "Bill" Burge, 84, of Arrow Rock, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Riverdell Care Center in Boonville.
Funeral services with Masonic services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Arrow Rock Federated Church. Rev. Jack Thomas, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Arrow Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Arrow Rock Federated Church, Arrow Rock Cemetery or Arrow Rock Community Volunteer Fire Department.
Born Sept. 28, 1923, near Arrow Rock, he was the son of Oscar Lynn Burge and Ruth Thompson Burge. He attended Oakwood Grade School, Boonville High School and University of Missouri. He was married May 6, 1951, to Mary Christine Hogge, who survives of the home. He was a member of Arrow Rock Federated Church, where he served as deacon, church board member and as treasurer for 42 years. He was also a member of the Arrow Rock Masonic Lodge 55 A.F. & A.M., serving as worshipful master for nine terms. He was a life member of Columbia Valley Scottish Rite. He was chief of the Arrow Rock Community Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years. He was a past member of Marshall Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol and a past member of the Cooper County civil defense unit. He also served as a board member of the Arrow Rock Cemetery for many years. He owned and operated Black Arrow Farm, enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the Missouri River, which borders the farm.
Survivors include his wife Mary; one daughter, Jenna Lynn Burge; one son, William Bradford Burge; four grandchildren, Jonathan Albert Burge and his wife, Kahla, Benjamin Matthew Burge, Elyse Marie Diefenbach and her husband, Joe, and Katelynn Eve Reuter; two great-grandsons, William Paul Hogge Burge and Albert Kahl August Burge; one cousin Robert Paul Burge; and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a special uncle, Paul Burge.
