George Guile Bonner, 90, passed away September 13, 2008 at Renown Medical Center in Reno, NV following a stroke. George was born December 31, 1917 in Mattapan, MA, the son of Herbert Spencer Bonner of Sidney Mines, Canada and Florence Picking of England. George served in the CCCs (Civilian Conservation Corps). In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army in Boston, MA. He was honorably discharged at Camp Forrest, TN. George worked for a short time as a candy maker. He was a career civil service employee at Sierra Army Depot from 1949 to 1956. He worked as a foreman at Stead Air Force base from 1956 until the base closed in 1967. George worked part time as a janitor at Reno High School until December 1977. He worked part time at the Nugget Casino in Sparks, NV and at the MGM Casino in Reno, NV. George married Bettie Jean Vindhurst in Carson City, NV on February 4, 1949.

George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bettie; his stepson, William (Bill) Bonner and his sister, Marjorie Geddes. Surviving are George's nieces, Joyce and Carol and nephew, Andrew, all of Massachusetts. He is also survived by nephew, Tim Hopkins of San Francisco, CA and sister-in-law, Gladys Vindhurst of Lassen County California. Other survivors include children of his wife's brother, Robert Vindhurst and his wife's sisters, Martha, Bertha and Gerry. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Walton Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd Street, Reno. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Internment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
