He was born in Waterbury, Conn., Feb. 9, 1921, to Harry Bennett Carter and Alice (LaVigne) Carter.
He attended Crosby High School and moved with his family to Amherst, N.H., before World War II.
He began working for Hitchiner Manufacturing Co., in Manchester, N.H., at its original location in the Millyard.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He continued to work for Hitchiner after the war and in 1963 co-founded Hy-Ten Die & Development Corp., a maker of precision molds. He retired in 1984.
He moved to Florida and continued to visit New Hampshire each summer until his wife's death in 2004.
He enjoyed golf, was a skilled hunter and candlepin bowler. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He was predeceased by his wife, June (Young) Carter, and two sons, Richard Carter and James Carter.
Family members include two sons, William Y. Carter of Epping, N.H., and Harry B. "Nick" Carter III of Inverness; a daughter, Terry A, Carter of Brattleboro, Vt.; one granddaughter; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
IN HIS LIFE: He was also survived by a granddaughter, Raina Leah Carter of Brattleboro, Vt.; two sisters-in-law, Florence Johnson of Manchester, N.H., and Marion Young of Amherst, N.H.; and a brother-in-law, Maurice Young of Amherst, N.H.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a future date in New Hampshire.
