Born March 15, 1913 in Elsinore, Utah to Thomas Walter and Clara Nelson Smith. Married LuRue Stoddard, April 13, 1935 in Richfield. Rex was a Civil Engineer, employed in his early years with the Utah State Road Commission in Salt Lake City and Price. He became interested in mining and was employed by the Vanadium Corporation of America, in Monticello, Marysvale, Utah and Durango, Colorado. He was one of the first to discover Uranium in Marysvale; and the first ore to be shipped from the area in 1948 was off of his Prospector claims. After retiring he ran his own Elsinore ELectric & TV; and continued his love of prospecting and panning for gold. He loved the great outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, LuRue, Elsinore; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Sherlene) Johnson, Marysvale; Mrs. Michael (Lesa) Greenhalgh, Richfield; a son Walter Brent Smith, Woodland, Utah; five grandchildren; Scott Johnson, Las Vegas; Bren Smith and Micki Smith, both Woodland; Brandon Teeples and Michael Chad Greenhalgh, both Richfield.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12th, 1 p.m. in the Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary Chapel in Richfield; where friends may call one hour prior to service time. Due to a request by Rex there will be no public viewing. Burial in the Elsinore City Cemetery.
