Our precious Mother, Slena Mae Murray, completed her work on Earth and joined her loved ones above on Oct. 3, 2007. She was born June 2, 1923, in Lawrence County, Ala., but had lived in Sheffield most of her adult life. Her parents were Robert Duncan Peebles and Betty Drue Jane Tolbert Peebles. She was the second of nine children, six lived to maturity. Her siblings were Preston Posey, R.D. Peebles Jr., Ellen Dyer, Rayburn Peebles and David Peebles.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, from 1-2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, of Tuscumbia. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel, with Jack Coons officiating. Burial will be in Guy Cemetery.
She and James Arlander Murray married Sept. 16, 1945. Their children are Bill A. Murray, Carolyn Greer (Charles), Lowell Glynn Murray (Susan), Joel Murray (Irene) and Kenny Murray. Their grandchildren are Kimberly Ricketts, Teresa Oldham, Tony Murray, Amanda Terry, Laura Dutton, Gary Wright II, Sam Barron II, Stephanie Tucker, Melissa Murray, Michael Stewart, Sharon McKinney and Rita Crane. Great-grandchildren are Brandon Murray, Zach Sledge, Jordan Murray, Corey Grimes and Tyler Oldham. Great-great-grandchildren are Tanner Murray, Caleb Murray and Logan Sledge.
She was a beautiful lady and our precious mother. She was skilled at sewing and quilting and was a very creative person. She will be missed by those who love her.
Pallbearers are Brandon Murray, Roy Tucker, Michael Stewart, Jerry Posey, Gary Wright and Tony Murray.
Honorary pallbearers are Joe Robinson, Joshua Terry, Luke Dutton, Michael Ricketts, Johnny Nix, Bryan Peebles and Anthony Peebles.
