Robert Marion Anderson was born October 15, 1844 in Vernon County, Missouri to Jesse and Sarah (Hale) Anderson. Sarah Hale Anderson was a full blood Cherokee from Tennessee. Mr. Anderson also had two older brothers, Andrew Monroe Anderson and William Anderson.

Robert Marion Anderson married Melissa Brambaugh around 1869 in Missouri and they had five children. Mrs. Anderson died in 1885 in Chautauqua County, Kansas. In 1887, he married Emma Josephine Wright in Sedan, Chautauqua County, Kansas, and they had eight children. Mrs. Anderson died in 1905. In 1910, Mr. Anderson married Marinda (last name unknown). In 1912, he married Sarah Croon. In 1922, Mr. Anderson married Sarah A. Divine Mosier in Copan, Oklahoma. Mrs. Anderson died in 1931.

Robert Marion Anderson was a farmer, an Indian Territory pioneer, and a Union soldier in the Civil War. He also drilled the first water well for Jake Bartles.

Robert Marion Anderson died at the age of 90 years, 4 months, 23 days, on March 9, 1935 in Copan, Washington County, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held under the direction of Burt's Funeral Home, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with interment in the Dewey Cemetery, Dewey, Oklahoma.
