OBITUARY - John Marion Boyd (1873-1946), 74, resident of Putnam County for the past 25 years was instantly killed about 5:09 p.m. last night, when struck from the bicycle he was riding along highway 15, near Rammage’s store at San Mateo, by driver White, near driver black.
No charges were made against the black after a coroner’s jury impaneled by John D. Hodge investigated the affair.
Witnesses stated that White en route to Palatka attempted to pass Boyd on his bicycle, which had turned out from the Rammage store directly in the path of the oncoming car. Boyd was somewhat hard of hearing and apparently did not hear the car approaching. Hurled from his wheel, by the impact, Boyd’s bead was crushed on the pavement and death occurred within a few minutes.
The coroner’s jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
Mr. Boyd was a native of Tory, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the San Mateo Baptist Church with the Rev. J. B. Callahan officiating.
Burial will be in the San Mateo Cemetery with W. Carl Davis & Son in charge.

Henry Johnson, three granddaughters, Martha Lou Thomas, Karin and Elsa Johnson, all of San Mateo and a sister, Mrs. john M. Sullivan, Mayo. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dated Wednesday, 22 May 1946.)
