Thelma Anna Saltsman Boyer

Thelma Anna Saltsman Boyer, 82, of Stone Arabia Road, East Stone Arabia died early Tuesday, August 26, 2003, in Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls, N.Y. Born on December 26, 1920, in East Stone Arabia, NY, she was the daughter of George and Edna Christman Saltsman. Mrs. Boyer was educated in East Stone Arabia School House and attended Canajoharie High School. As a child she worked on her parent's dairy farm, and as a young adult worked as a housekeeper and nanny for a Johnstown family. Mrs. Boyer also, at one time, worked for Luxuray in Fort Plain and Beech-Nut in Canajoharie. She married Rev. Gerald S. Boyer of Weissport, PA on April 4, 1942, and resided in East Stone Arabia where Rev. Boyer was pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church (presently the Salem United Methodist Church). She served as a full-time mother, pastor's wife, and ministered at several parishes with her husband. Together they served at the E.U.B. Church in East Stone Arabia until 1948, the E.U.B.Church in Binghamton, NY from 1948 to 1953, the E.U.B. Church of West Sand Lake from 1953 to 1966, the E.U.B./United Methodist Church of Webster, NY from 1966 to 1972, and the Church of Christ Uniting of Richfield Springs from 1972 until they retired in 1977 and settled back in East Stone Arabia. Mrs. Boyer was very active with all aspects of church life, particularly with Christian Education, Missions and Outreach. She also was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Boyer was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Gerald S. Boyer on July 4, 1981. She was also predeceased by a son, Lin Boyer, on November 4, 1965; and four brothers, Clyde, Arnold, Thalen and Malcolm Saltsman. Survivors include a daughter, Tami Jan Boyer of East Stone Arabia; a brother, Leo Saltsman and his wife Eleanor of East Stone Arabia; two sisters, Mildred Bollen and her husband Cletus of Tribes Hill and Edith Lansing and her husband Robert of Rensselaerville; a sister-in-law, Laverna Saltsman of Fort Johnson; an aunt, Gladys Nagele of St. Johnsville; an uncle, Donald Saltsman of Fort Plain; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2003, at the Salem United Methodist Church, 1254 Stone Arabia Rd., East Stone Arabia with Rev. Newton Perrins officiating. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. There will be no calling hours. All are invited to attend a reception of family and friends that will take place following the committal service at the church in East Stone Arabia. It was Mrs. Boyer's wish that in lieu of flowers, monetary donations be made to the various parishes where she served with her husband. Donations of self, by volunteering individual time and talents in service to others, may also be made in her memory. Arrangements are by the Lenz and Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.

MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT (FORT PLAIN STANDARD, N.Y. April 25, 1942) STONE ARABIA - On Easter Sunday evening at 8:30, Miss Thelma Saltsman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Saltsman, and the Rev. Gerald Boyer, both of East Stone Arabia, were united in marriage at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harmon-on-Hudson, New York. The officiating minister, the Rev. Guy Brown and Mr. Boyer were former college roommates. The bride wore a blue silk dress with white accessories and a corsage of red roses. They were unattended. The bride is an employee at the Luxuray Mill, Fort Plain. Mr. Boyer graduated from Albright College in 1938 and from Union Theological Seminary , New York City, in 1941. Mr. Boyer is pastor of the Salem Evqngelical Church at East Stone Arabia. They spent their wedding trip in New York City and with relatives in Weisport, Pa.
