Son of William Findley and Martha (Dreamer) Drennan Findley

David came to America with his father, William Findley in 1773-74 and resided for a time in Cumberland Co, PA. Later, he moved to Elizabeth, Westmoreland Co, PA. which became Allegheny, in
1788. He owned land and was head of a family in the 1790 census. He served with the militia and was active in 1782. He moved to Muskingum Co. OH in 1806, settling in Muskingum Co.,Union Twp, sw
1/4 sect. 1. Originally living in log houses with clapboard roofs, Findley built a brick house in 1828. He ran for the U. S. Senate in 1809 but was defeated. He served as a Judge from 1813-1820 and was instrumental in development of
New Concord on a part of his farm in 1828. In 1836 he served as chairman of a committee to establish an academy, which later grew into Muskingum College. He was not known as an abolishionist or reformer in the modern sense, but was highly esteemed for his integrity and public spirit. In politics he was a Whig. He was one of the men who "won the west".
