Thaddeus Austin Thomson, lawyer and diplomat, son of Thomas Coke and Mary Jane Chriesman and grandson of Texas pioneer Alexander Thomson, Jr. He attended Salado College and Texas Military Institute and was admitted to the bar on 11 Jul 1881. In 1912 Thomson was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. He was appointed by President Woodrow Wilson on 10 Jun 1913 as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Colombia and served until 30 Aug 1916. In 1939 the official title was changed to "Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary". On 6 Jul 1914, he signed the Thomson-Urrutia Treaty between the United States and Colombia. He married Annie Eloise (Holliday) Anderson on 14 Jun 1883; they had four children. Thomson was a Methodist and a longtime member of the Navy League.
