Grandpa had great financial achievements in his life. Owned the Girndt Motor Co. Newton KS.
In NY as a teenager he was a hunting/fishing guide and tracked in the Winter. When he met Murrel Girndt he was an automotive mechanic. Self-taught and skilled with working with his hands.
After Murrel taught in NY for 3 years, she came back home to Eskridge, and he followed her there a few months later. He proposed, they got married and he obtained a job in Newton as an auto mechanic during the depression years. He made good money, because people could not afford to buy new cars, so they fixed the old ones.
Paul McDaniel was the owner of the dealership and eventually Bob bought into the business, and was the partner of the repair shop. When Paul M. retired, Bob bought him out and became soul owner, and renamed the dealership to Girndt Motor Company. It was located on E. 6th Street, and eventually he opened a used car lot on Hwy 81 on the S. end of town. The dealership on 6th St. had a fire when Gail was in the 8th grade (possibly in the Fall), but she couldn't go to the fire because she had the measles, and wanted too so badly.

From Abilene, Kansas, he moved with his wife and infant daughter, to Newton, in 1928, forty-seven years ago, where he opened and operated a radiator shop, and later went into partnership with Paul McDaniel at the Buick garage.
