She was born March 30, 1918, in Manchester, to Dennis and Mary (Hanna) Mahony and had been a lifelong resident of this community. She was a 1936 graduate of Manchester High School Central and attended New Hampshire College in Manchester.
Prior to retirement, she was administrative assistant to the vice president of Prudential Bache Securities.
She was an active bridge player, forming a bridge club with other wives of active World War II servicemen. Their friendships supported them during the times their husbands were away.
When the war ended and their families grew, these women maintained their strong friendships and continued their bridge group for many years.
She and her husband, Russ, and sons Bill and Tom, spent many wonderful summers in York Beach, Maine. After retirement, she and her husband spent all their summers there.
IN HER LIFE: Katherine was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Russell H. Mattson; a son, Donald Mattson; two sisters, Mary Demers and Elizabeth Murphy; one brother, John Mahony and her parents. She leaves two sons and their families, Bill and Terry Mattson, of York, Maine and Tom and Paula Mattson of Auburn; two granddaughters, Mary Leigh Mattson of New York City, and Anna Reilly Mattson of Auburn, and many caring nieces, nephews, and cousins.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine St., corner of Harrison Street, Manchester.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Pius Church, Manchester. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
