Charlie Mack Childrey, 90, of Reidsville, NC, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, September 17, at First Baptist Church of Reidsville. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

A native of Rockingham County, he was a son of the late Louis Allen and Clara Ferguson Childrey and had lived in Reidsville since 1964. Charlie spent his early childhood and high school years at Oxford Orphanage, along with his brother, Louis, who was killed in World War II.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1964, where he served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. After his retirement, he was an independent insurance agent in the Reidsville area for many years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Baracca/Brande Sunday School Class at the church. He was also a member of the Jefferson Penn Masonic Lodge #384 AF&AM and the Order of the Eastern Star Rose Chapter #178.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Edwin Childrey, four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors included his loving wife, Mary Moore Childrey of the home; son, Louis Allan Childrey and wife, Susan, of Eden, NC; daughter, Carol Sue Phillips and husband, Ron, of Kernersville, NC; granddaughter, Lauren M. Childrey and fiancé, Brittian Cherry, of Charleston, SC; brother, Sam Childrey and wife, Mildred, of Reidsville; sister, Clarice Roach, of Reidsville; and special friend, Wanda Hunter, of Reidsville.
