Emily was born February 15, 1833, in Kentucky. She was the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Pierce, who, by June 1860, had brought their family to Hire Township, McDonough Co., IL.

Mrs. Emily Anna Nelson died at her home 1 mile west of Cedar Vale last Tuesday after an illness of five days. She was 73 yrs old the day she took sick. The funeral was held at her home. Funeral was conducted by Rev. J. N. Hoover of the Baptist Church. Burial was at the Zimmerman Cemetery (Now N. Cedar). She leaves two sons, Thomas and Elmer, both of whom live here and are well known.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Breckenridge Co., KY. She with her parents moved to IL in 1852. She was married to E. C. Nelson in 1853. They moved to Kansas in 1871 and located on the farm on which Mrs. Nelson lived at the time of her death. Mr. Nelson died in the year 1890. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Christian Church since the year 1890. She had a wide acquaintance here and a large circle of friends. One of the largest funeral processions seen here in many a day, followed her remains to the cemetery.

Mrs. Emily Anna Nelson was born in Breckenridge County, KY 2-15-1833. She came with her parents to IL in the year 1852 and in 1853 was married to Mr. E. C. Nelson. They remained in the state of IL until 1871 at which time they came to Chautauqua Co., Kansas, and located on a farm one mile west of Cedar Vale, Kansas. Her husband, Mr. Nelson died in the year 1890.
Mrs. Nelson died 2-20-1906 at her home one mile west of Cedar Vale. She was taken with a severe attack of La Grippe, and after an illness of five days passed to her home beyond the circuit of mortal vision.
She leaves two sons, Thomas and Elmer, three grandchildren and two sisters, Miss Margaret and Mrs. Bell Zimmerman to mourn the loss of a friend and devoted mother, a loving and affectionate sister.
Mrs. Nelson had a wide acquaintance and a circle of friends who will miss her kindly face and loving words. Mrs. Nelson became a Christian in early life and for a number of years was a member of the Methodist Church. In the year 1890 she united with the Christian Church in Cedar Vale of which in was a member in good standing at the time of her death.
The Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. J. N. Hoover, of the Baptist Church and the remains were laid to rest in the Zimmerman Cemetery in the presence of a great company of friends.
