Elthor "Buddy" Babel

Elthor "Buddy" Babel, age 76, of Seguin, passed away Nov. 22, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Goetz Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Vayda officiating. Interment will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-9 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home.

"Buddy" was born Nov. 20, 1928 in Gruene, Texas to Elthor, Sr. and Clara Elizabeth Jandt Babel. He served in the United States Army in Korea. He worked for GVEC for a few years and for SMI more than 30 years.

Buddy was an avid bowler, and in his younger days pitched for the local softball team. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Babel, his parents; brother Robert Babel and sisters, Wilma Urban and Elaine Babel. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Babel Shanafelt and husband Andrew of Seguin; sons Michael Wayne Babel*, Bryan Timothy Babel, John Wade Babel and wife Amy, all of Seguin and Kenneth Ray Babel and wife Kaye of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren Kelsey, Kaitlyn and Kameron Shanafelt of Seguin, Elijah and Isabel Babel, Orlando, Florida, Ryan Ragen of Orlando, Florida and Joey Babel of Seguin; sisters Melva Grimm, Elva Rauch, Doris Grimm and Virginia Howard; aunt, Margaret Junker and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
